Overview
This one-year Information Technology Support Technician (ITST) programme is designed for students wanting to enter the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry as support technicians. The programme has a strong emphasis on office computing, PC hardware, PC components, networks, coding principles and cyber security.
Successful students can advance to the second year of study, progressing to Information Technology Systems Technician and AI Foundation (ITSAI).
Who is the ICDL?
The International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL) is a globally recognised qualification held by over three million people. It certifies essential computer skills and sets international standards for digital competence, offered in more than 100 countries through over 20,000 test
Programme duration
1 year of full-time weekday classes.
Admission requirements
You must be at least 17 years of age and must have obtained a South African grade 12 or a GCSE qualification.
Applicants who do not meet the standard admission requirements may apply for special consideration. The Unigrad advisory board will review these applications on a case-by-case basis.
Fees
Textbooks, ICDL and Unigrad College exams are included in the tuition fee. Students wanting to write CompTIA exams may do so at an additional fee. Contact Unigrad and speak to a student career consultant for course fee information.
Certification on successful completion of studies
Students write various internal as well as international exams. Students who successfully complete their studies graduate with the following:
International Certification in Digital Literacy (ICDL):
- Microsoft Documents, Spredsheets and Presentation Design
- Coding Principles (Python)
- Cyber Security
Unigrad College Learning Programme Certificate:
- Information Technology Support Technician
Unigrad College Short Learning Programme Certificates:
- PC Technologies
- Networking
- Comuting (Coding Fundamentals)
Optional CompTIA Certifications:
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA N+
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is the global leading provider of vendor-neutral IT certifications. They assess and validate core A+ and N+ knowledge and enhance technical credibility. The international CompTIA exams are an optional extra.
