About this programme

The growth of wildlife tourism and game lodges, together with rising environmental awareness, has created strong demand for skilled and passionate conservation professionals. This two-year Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management (NCWM) programme trains aspiring nature guides and equips them for careers in ecotourism and game reserve management.

While classroom learning builds your foundation, true understanding comes from experience. Each semester includes guided excursions, culminating in a comprehensive 28-day practical in a Big Five game reserve.

Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) Endorsed

Various Unigrad College programmes are endorsed by FGASA, promoting the development of guides using training programmes that conform to high standards of learner development. The Association promotes the highest standards of guide assessment through their registered, qualified and experienced assessors.

– SASSETA Basic Rifle Handling Unit Standard Certificate

– First Aid Certificate

– 28-day Nature and wildlife practical level 1 provider certificate

Admission Requirements

National Senior Certificate (Grade 12). 

If you are currently in Grade 12 you apply with your final grade 11 results and the most recent grade 12 results available.  Should you be accepted on the above you are still required to pass Grade 12.

 Applicants who do not meet the standard admission requirements may apply for special consideration. The Unigrad advisory board will review these applications on a case-by-case basis.

Fees

Textbooks, exams, lectures, FGASA membership and various student events are included in the tuition fee.  Contact Unigrad and speak to any full-time student career consultant for course fee information. Do note, the 28 day nature and wildlife practical, 1st Aid and rifle handling are excluded from the 2nd year course fees.
